Poverty is the state of being poor or the state of being lower quality. However, one thing is constant, at the root of poverty is people's deprivation of access to basic necessities such as food, health care and sanitation, education and goods. And the evidence shows that solving these problems usually pull people out of extreme poverty. One wonders why an oil producing country like Nigeria will fight poverty.
There are many reasons why this is so, and they include:
a. Overcrowding.
Nigeria's current population was 212,865,077 as of Thursday, October 28, 2021.Of course, we know that because of feelings and our cultural system, and not much can be done when it comes to reproduction. An average family has around 2 children. The population in Nigeria is not proportional to the resources generated in Nigeria.
b. Corruption and unequal distribution of wealth.
We operate in a representative system of government in Nigeria and representatives in government houses are against the interests of the people. This means investing in human capital and providing jobs for women and youth, increasing financial access and opportunities for these groups in rural communities.
c. Promoting technological innovation.
This means that trying to find solutions to some of the causes of poverty could be a relief. Priority must be given to education and job creation. We must also invest in the technological space. Artificial intelligence and technology are developing rapidly in Nigeria and around the world.
To end poverty, we must harness the demographic dividends by investing in health, education, and livelihoods, especially for our young people. By building strong institutions, promoting transparency in governance and accountability, billions of naira destined for the state will not be diverted and will do much to reduce corruption. From budgets to intervention programs, the country can benefit from massive projects that will go a long way in reducing the poor population in Nigeria. It will require the election of honest, committed, and trustworthy politicians who believe in a transformed Nigeria. Even greater investments in infrastructure such as housing and basic amenities that could help or provide access to basic needs could be of great help.
The education of girls is also very important as it will help in the development of a nation’s economy.
